It is an excellent piece of craftmanship. Beautifully made.

History of the Object :
The brooch was part of the regalia of the Cakranegara Kingdom on Lombok. Dutch troops organised an expedition against this Kingdom in 1894. They brought the King and his son, together with their regalia, to the capital Batavia, now Jakarta. Soon after the regalia were shipped to the Netherlands and eventually became part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde (National Museum of Ethnology) in Leiden. In 1977 negotiations were held between the Indonesian and Dutch government and part of the collection was returned to Indonesia. The objects were transferred to the Museum Nasional where they are now exhibited. 222 objects are still in the possession of the Volkenkunde Museum in Leiden.
